It’s never too hot for Oats!

With the temperatures being up to 25°C for the past couple of days it would be an understatement to say that a warm bowl of porridge didn’t sound appetising.

I’ve been resorting to Green Monsters instead but ,being an oat-crazed person , I can only eat smoothies for breakfast for a couple of times until I start to miss my oats again…

Solution: Overnight Oats.

There are 2 ‘recipes’  I use regularly for the base of my overnight oats.
For the first base you just mash half a banana, put some raw oats and some milk with this and stir it well before you put it in the fridge. You can stir in/top it with whatever you like.

Today I opted for another method though

‘Chocolate Almond Overnight Oats’

For the base of these overnight oats you have to pour boiling water over the oats and let that cool before you put it in the fridge (makes the oats ‘cooked’ in some way and makes the mixture a bit less slimy in my opinion).

For this bowl I’ve used half a cup of oats, 1 square of dark chocolate and 6 almonds. Pour boiling water over this mixture until everything is covered and let it cool for an hour on the counter top before you put it in the fridge.
I also add a few splashes of soy milk and a couple of dashes of cinnamon right before I popped it in the fridge.

This bowl with some strawberries or a teaspoon of peanut butter with it makes a yummy and refreshing breakfast!

Next week the weather is going back to ‘normal’ and I almost can’t wait to start eat steaming bowl of porridge again!

Love, M.

  1. I had oats for breakfast this morning as well. There was no chocolate, just plain old oats. Someone I know puts a splodge of peanut butter in with it and it makes the kitchen smell of peanut butter.

Yesterday I was hungover and left my oats to cool down for too long – there was a fairly thick dry crust on the top of it. I still ate it though.

  2. The smell of peanut butter in oats is one of my favourite smells to wake up to 😀
Crusted oatmeal ^^ was it still edible though? or were you just being brave?;)
